Carson City news and shocking news in New York

Read this brief article (click here) found on MSN.com about the "insane amount of money" a buyer paid for a single-family home in New York  (in this case, an apartment).   In Carson City, our great city is obviously no comparison to the mighty New York homes prices, but still a fun and shocking read.

This article (click here) based on a 5 year study from 2009-2013 has some interesting housing statistics in Nevada and specifically Carson City.

Here is some not-that-new-news for our area:

 - The hope of new business' (i.e., Tesla) locating to our surrounding areas is welcome news to all industries.
 - Shopping local and supporting our local business' is always a focal point of our community.  (not just during the holiday season).
 - New home construction in Carson City is minimal but encouraging.
 - Unemployment is still a concern especially if you talk with the youth of our community. Keeping families close together with local job and education opportunities is important.
 - The 2015 Legislative Session begins next month and is always a major contributing factor to stimulating our economy.

I would like to see our tourism continue to strengthen (visit and share the Carson City Tourism Website (click here) with all your non-local friends and family) because much like buying a house, [usually] a buyer won't buy a home unless they actually walk the home, no matter how cool the on-line virtual tour.  We welcome tourists to our area especially during the high-tourism-season for winter sports.  (Hey New Yorkers: you can visit on a non-stop flight to the Reno-Tahoe Airport beginning May 28th Click here for more information)

Because our housing market is so closely tied to our economy, here is why a business should open or relocate to our community:  Click here.

I will keep a watchful eye on our community, our elected leaders, our economy, and as always, our housing market.

Referrals bring good karma.  If you or someone you know would like to buy or sell real estate in Northern Nevada,  please share my contact information.

When BUYING: Take a look both day and night..

One of the many factors to consider when buying a home or investment property is viewing the location both day and night. Visit the location on several occasions including early morning and early evening.  Also, late evenings and mid-day.  "After-school" hours to assess school speed zones, bus stops locations and proximity to schools.  Check nearest location to shopping and entertainment  (if there is a disco around the corner, that might not be something you want to live close to) and see if accessibility is convenient (if the nearest grocery store is a gas station, you might want to move closer to town).
The location of nearby street lights is also important to consider for night time access to the property.  If you need to add driveway lights or motion lights to the property, you want to know that ahead of time.

If you are a first time homebuyer, this may be new knowledge for you.  You should be well informed of the entire home buying process once you get pre-qualified, the rest of the home shopping process has a lot less paperwork and is actually FUN.
In today's high tech world looking at homes starts online for many.  Looking at a home online will save time and give you faster access to a property you do like and eliminate those you don't.

Fun Facts about Carson City:

Carson City, officially the Consolidated Municipality of Carson City, is an independent city and the capital of the state of Nevada, named for the Mountain man Kit Carson. As of the 2010 census, the population was 55,274. The city has served as the capital of Nevada since statehood in 1864 and for much of its history was a hub for the Virginia and Truckee Railroad, although the tracks were removed in the 1950s.
